About Dr. Timothy Oleskiw

Dr. Timothy Oleskiw is an Assistant Professor of Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Regina, where his lab investigates visual neurocomputation — how brains and machines make sense of what they see.

He is also a Research Fellow at the Flatiron Institute's Center for Computational Neuroscience and New York University's Center for Neural Science, where his work combines machine learning and electrophysiology to model the fundamental computations of the visual cortex and how visual features are integrated along the ventral visual pathway.

An active part of Saskatchewan's growing innovation community — including the province's first Crown-sector hackathon, co-hosted by its three major post-secondary institutions — Dr. Oleskiw serves as a hackathon judge and speaker at the Saskatchewan AI & Tech Summit 2027, mentoring the next generation of builders and sharing how AI is reshaping science and industry.
