About Matt Wilson

Matt Wilson is the Founder and Managing Director of Allied Venture Partners, the Calgary-based angel syndicate he launched in 2020 to close a specific gap in Canada’s startup ecosystem: local founders raising against a shortage of local capital, and local investors with no practical route into venture-scale deals.

It has since grown into Western Canada’s largest angel syndicate — more than 2,100 investors who have collectively deployed over $7.2M across 42 investments into 25 portfolio companies, backing pre-seed, seed and Series A rounds in infrastructure software, AI/ML, fintech, analytics and marketplaces across North America.

He came to it as an operator first. He exited his Toronto-based CPG startup in 2012 and moved to Calgary in 2013, advising early-stage founders on sales and go-to-market while investing his own money — more than 100 personal investments and seven exits, Pinterest and Lyft among them. It was receiving his distributed Pinterest shares after the IPO that pushed him to formalise what he had been doing informally and start Allied.

At the Saskatchewan AI & Tech Summit 2027, Matt brings the cheque-writer’s side of the table — what actually gets a prairie company funded, and how Canadian founders reach the capital that sits outside their own province.
